Many people love the horror genre, but the amount of content with horror elements seems to be quite low as, in most cases, a truly harrowing book, movie, or TV series can only be enjoyed by a more mature audience who doesn’t get scared easily.
Produced for and distributed by Netflix, The Haunting of Hill House is one of the scariest web series that can be found on the internet, encapsulating many of the elements that made the novel with the same name, which inspired the first season, a hit.
A promising anthology
The Haunting of Hill House was designed to be an anthology series, with each season inspired being inspired by a popular horror novel. For the first season, the producers picked The Haunting of Hill House, published by Shirley Temple in 1959 and themed to be one of the best literary ghost stories published in the 20th century.
While the first season only had ten episodes, it managed to enthrall the audience and became a quick hit among Netflix users thanks to its immersive atmosphere, interesting plot, and excellent visual effects, which contributed to a remarkable horror experience.
New season, new name
As the first season was quite popular, Netflix decided to commission a second season for the anthology. However, the second season is based on a different novel and will follow some of the events and characters that featured in The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.
Called The Haunting of Bly Manor, the second season promises to be as scary and as fascinating as the first one. A few of the cast members have decided to return and portray new characters: Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson Cohen, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel have confirmed their appearance, and others might be announced.
It is anticipated that Netflix will release the new season during the second part of 2020.
