Kim Jong Un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, hasn’t been seen in public for several weeks, which obviously led to the idea that he died. He occupied the prestigious position of dictator of the Asian country since 2011, after his predecessor and father, Kim Jong-il, died because of myocardial infarction.
The hypothesis of Kim Jong Un’s death becomes even more plausible considering that the leader recently had heart surgery before he disappeared from the public space. Furthermore, various sources are claiming that the dictator was brain dead, so he couldn’t be conscious.
What North Korean media says about Kim Jong Un
Short answer: nothing. Well, it doesn’t surprise anyone since the Asian country is renowned for its strict rules. But various official sources from neighboring countries such as China and Japan are claiming that Kim Jong Un is dead.
While there’s no secret that a lot of people would be happy about the death of the dictator, it would be absurd to lie about someone’s death, regardless of who he is. Even the Vice director of HKSTV Hong Kong Satellite Television Shijian Xingzou says that the Supreme Leader of North Korea is dead.
Who could be the next leader of North Korea?
If Kim Jong Un is really dead as it’s the most probable scenario, his political duties will be taken over by his sister, Kim Yo-jong. However, the chances are high that the woman will take the political place of her brother before he is officially declared dead. The risk of creating a civil riot in North Korea is not worth taking, especially in the actual context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we are free to make assumptions and speculations about what will happen to North Korea’s politics from now on, chances are very low that Kim Jong Un will appear out of nowhere and say ‘Surprise-surprise, I’m back and I was never dead as you hoped!’.
