God of War 5 Release Date and Features – What We Know So Far?

God of War is one of the most popular video games franchises in the world, as millions of players have enjoyed at least one of the titles in the series on their PlayStation consoles. The first game in the franchise was released more than 15 years ago for the PS2, surprising players with an action-filled combat, satisfying upgrade system, and a great story.

The popularity of the game made it one of the best-selling first-party games on the PS2 and contributed to the release of several sequels and prequels available for the PlayStation 2, 3, and PlayStation Portable.

Reboot and new mythology

While the original Greek mythology setting was popular among fans, Sony Santa Monica decided that a major setting change was needed for the 2018 God of War reboot. As such, Kratos has been transported into ancient Norway, where he leaves peacefully with his son Atreus, whole grieving the loss of his second wife.

Many fans loved the changes that were implemented in the reboot, including the introduction of Atreus as a supporting NPC and the swap from the classic chains to a magical axe that deals with an impressive amount of damage in combat.

God of War 5 Possible release date

At the end of God of War, it is inferred that Thor will come at the end of Fimbulwinter to confront Kratos and Atreus, as the Norse gods believe that they started Ragnarok willfully in an attempt to bring the end of the world.

Since there is a gap of three years between the start and end of the Fimbulwinter it is likely that Kratos will train Atreus in the arts of war, teaching him new skills that could be harnessed in the next game. Sony Santa Monica did not announce an official release date at this point, but one high-ranking employee stated after the release of the Good of War reboot that new games will be made.
