Hemingway’s last significant work to be published during his lifetime was 1952’s “The Old Man and the Sea,” a novella about an aging Cuban fisherman who had gone 84 days without a catch until finally snagging one in an epic 2 ½ day struggle. The book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in literature in 1953. In 1954, Hemingway won the Nobel Prize. He committed suicide on July 2, 1961, in Ketchum, Idaho.
